The Vision

The vision for the Laurel Park development is to respect and reflect the local area’s history, which is tied to its natural setting.

Historically, the surrounding area’s architectural character has been defined by harmony between buildings and landscape, with numerous cottages with large gardens. This has inspired the landscape-led approach that has guided the design.

Particular attention has been paid to the following:

Creating a thoughtfully designed layout that complements the neighbouring streets and enhances the local character

Ensuring the size and style of the buildings fit seamlessly within the surrounding area

Carefully considering how the development interacts with nearby homes and private gardens

Providing high-quality private outdoor spaces for future residents

Using materials and design details that echo those found in the surrounding buildings

Ensuring the building heights are in harmony with the neighbouring properties.

Consideration has been given to the split between the school and residential use.

The site lends itself to a natural split, approximately 200m south of Hammondstreet Road. This is ideal, as it enables a continuation of the pattern of housing found locally while providing a distinct and appropriate site for a SEN school facility.
